Nirmala Rajasekar - Ragi Thandiro

from Out of the Ashes : A Benefit Album for Minneapolis by Various Artists

about

The song 'Ragi Thandiro' is by the 14nth century Indian Composer Purandara Dasa known as the great grandfather of Carnatic South Indian Classical Music. In this song written in the language Kannada he alludes to the grain Ragi a kind of millet) which also translates to mean 'to be' in many beautiful messages that shares in it.
He says by 'being charitable', 'being respectful to each other and serving our elders' , we 'become valuable members of community'.
Very subtly he highlights these qualities as special ones to observe and practice.

Personally the song resonates with me in these challenging times.
